Introduction to the tool

How to use the Contract Control Radar

The Contract Control Radar helps you assess how well a contract is being managed, identify areas that need attention, and turn your findings into a practical Action Plan.

Here is how it works.

1. Start your assessment

Start by selecting the contract you want to assess.

Choose a contract you know well enough to evaluate how it is being managed in practice

2. Assess your contract

Work through the different areas of contract management and answer each question based on the current situation.

Choose the answer that best reflects what actually happens in practice, not what the contract or internal procedures say should happen.

3. Complete all areas

Continue through the assessment until you have covered all areas of the Contract Control Radar.

If you are unsure about an answer, use the question as an opportunity to involve colleagues or other stakeholders who may have the information.

4. Explore your Contract Control Radar

Once the assessment is complete, your answers are transformed into a visual Contract Control Radar.

The radar gives you an overview of where the contract appears to be well controlled and where there may be gaps or weaknesses that require attention.

5. Explore your results

Use the results to explore the individual areas in more detail.

Rather than focusing only on the overall picture, look at the specific areas and questions behind your scores. This helps you understand what is driving the result.

Pay particular attention to areas where your assessment indicates limited control, unclear responsibilities, missing processes, or other potential gaps.

6. Select your priorities

Not every finding needs to be addressed at once.

Review your results and decide which areas are most important for the contract right now. Consider the potential impact, urgency, risk, and effort required.

Select the findings you want to work on and turn them into priorities.

7. Build your Action Plan

Turn your selected priorities into concrete actions.

For each action, define what needs to happen, who should be responsible, and when it should be completed.

The goal is to move from simply identifying a problem to deciding what you are actually going to do about it.

8. Review your Action Plan

Once your actions have been created, review the complete Action Plan.

Make sure the actions are specific, realistic, and assigned to the right people. The Action Plan can then be used as a practical basis for follow-up with your team and other stakeholders

9. Take action and reassess

The Contract Control Radar is not intended to be a one-time assessment.

Use your Action Plan to improve the areas you have identified, follow up on progress, and return to the Radar later to reassess the contract.

This allows you to see whether your contract control is improving over time.

From assessment to action

The Contract Control Radar is designed to do more than give you a score.

It helps you understand where your contract stands, identify what deserves your attention, and create a practical plan for improving contract control.
